The CRNS regulates Saskatchewan RN and NP nursing practice in the best interest of the public through the investigation of written complaints about a CRNS registrant’s professional competence and/or professional conduct.
The Registered Nurses Act, 1988, mandates that the CRNS have independent, fair and unbiased investigation and discipline processes. The CRNS has the jurisdiction (authority) to investigate and discipline registrants who are licensed to practice as: Registered Nurses (RN), Nurse Practitioners (NP), Registered Nurses (Additional Authorized Practice) (RN(AAP)), Graduate Nurse Practitioners (GNP), and Graduate Nurses (GN) in Saskatchewan.
What We Do
The Professional Conduct team investigates written complaints about a nurse’s professional competence and/or conduct. The Investigation Committee, an independent panel of public representatives and Registered Nurses, determines the outcome of complaints as defined in The Registered Nurses Act , 1988.
When necessary, based on investigation findings, steps will be taken to ensure a nurse meets the required standards and competencies. In more serious cases, the complaint may be referred to a discipline hearing.
Submitting a Complaint
If you have concerns about an RN or NP, you can submit a complaint related to their professional competence and/or conduct.
Investigation Process
When the CRNS receives a written complaint alleging professional incompetence and/or professional misconduct about a nurse's practice, the investigation process is followed to determine appropriate action.
Discipline Process
Cases involving a registered nurse’s competence and/or conduct that are referred for a public discipline hearing are heard by the CRNS Discipline Committee. This committee includes five members: four RNs and one public representative. The process follows The Registered Nurses Act, 1988 and CRNS Bylaws.
