Ask a Nursing Advisor: Supports for Managers
I am an RN Nursing Manager and have colleagues who manage RNs and NPs who are not RNs or NPs themselves. What resources are available from the CRNS to support managers?
The CRNS Toolkit for Managers of RNs is a centralized resource designed to help managers understand RN professional practice expectations. The toolkit provides quick access to information on RN practice questions, workplace responsibilities, scope of practice, and other resources relevant to managing nursing teams.
Whether you are an RN, NP, or a manager who is not a CRNS registrant, the following resources can help build understanding of professional nursing practice:
- Practice Standards, Entry-Level Competencies and CRNS Code of Conduct apply to all CRNS registrants, including RNs or NPs who are in manager roles. These foundations for RN practice can be used to support discussions with RNs and NPs you manage as well as colleagues and supervisors who are not RNs or NPs themselves and could benefit from a better understanding of the professional expectations of RNs.
- Managing and Supporting RNs and NPs (Video) introduces key concepts and considerations for nursing managers about professional regulation.
- Managers who are not RNs or NPs themselves may benefit from reading our Fast Facts for Managers of RNs.
- The Top 10 List for New Managers of RNs is full of valuable information for any manager of RNs and may benefit new managers the most.
