Annual license renewal is an opportunity to reaffirm your commitment to the values of registered nursing. It is also required to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Registered Nurse with Additional Authorized Practice [RN(AAP)] in Saskatchewan.
How to Renew Your License
For registrants who intend to renew their RN license to practice in Saskatchewan
Application Requirements
To renew a practicing RN license, you must have completed one of the following options:
Option 1: Graduated from an approved RN nursing education program within the last five (5) years.
Option 2: Worked a minimum of 1125 hours of RN nursing practice within the last five (5) years.
Option 3: Worked a minimum of 450 hours of RN nursing practice within the last two (2) years.
Option 4: Completed an approved RN nursing re-entry program within the last five (5) years.
Option 5: Completed an approved competence assessment and required course work within the last five (5) years.
Option 6: Completed an approved supervised practice experience within the last five (5) years.
Application Process
- Login to the CRNS Portal.
- Calculate your NP hours for the previous practice year (Dec. 1 to Nov. 30). NP hours count as RN hours. RN hours do not count as NP hours.
- Complete your Continuing Competence Program.
- Follow the prompts and submit your renewal.
- Pay annual licensure fee to complete your renewal.
For registrants who intend to renew their NP license to practice in Saskatchewan.
To renew a practicing NP license, you must have completed one of the following options:
Option 1: Graduated from an approved nurse practitioner education program within the last three (3) years.
Option 2: Worked a minimum of 900 hours of NP practice within the last three (3) years.
Option 3: Completed an approved nurse practitioner re-entry program within the last three (3) years.

- Calculate your NP hours for the previous practice year (Dec. 1 to Nov. 30). NP hours count as RN hours. RN hours do not count as NP hours.
- Complete your Continuing Competence Program.
- Follow the prompts and submit your renewal.

For registrants who intend to renew their RN(AAP) license to practice in Saskatchewan.

To renew a practicing RN(AAP) license, you must have completed one of the following options:
Option 1: Graduated from an approved RN(AAP) education program within the last three (3) years.
Option 2: Worked a minimum of 900 hours of RN(AAP) practice within the last three (3) years.
Option 3: Completed an approved RN(AAP) re-entry program within the last three (3) years.
Application Process
- Login to the CRNS Portal.
- Calculate your RN(AAP) hours for the previous practice year (Dec. 1 to Nov. 30). RN(AAP) hours count as RN hours. RN hours do not count as RN(AAP) hours.
- Complete your Continuing Competence Program.
- Follow the prompts and submit your renewal.
- Pay annual licensure fee invoice to complete your renewal.
For registrants who intend to renew their GN license to practice in Saskatchewan.
The graduate nurse (GN) license is limited to 120 days and can be renewed a maximum of two (2) times.
Application Requirements
- You must have a NCLEX-RN examination appointment booked.
- Apply when your current GN license is set to expire in the next 28 days.
- A GN Consent for Statement from Employer form.
- Receipt of a favourable employer statement.
- If applicable, a completed GN Continuing Competence Program (CCP) form.
- If applicable, a current criminal record check.
Application Process
- Login to the CRNS Portal
- Upload a Graduate Nurse Consent for Statement from Employer form. The start date on the form is the date you began practicing as a GN (clinical practice), which may be different from your hire date. The CRNS will send the appropriate document to your nurse manager.
- Complete the GN Continuing Competence Program (CCP) form for the second and final GN extension only. For the first extension, simply upload the blank CCP form.
- Follow the prompts and submit your renewal.
- Once renewal form has been approved the outstanding invoice will appear in the CRNS Portal.
If you are unsuccessful in your third exam attempt, your GN license will be cancelled two (2) business days after the exam result is emailed.
This section applies to you if you previously held a practicing license with the CRNS and are seeking reinstatement after an absence.
If you last practiced as an RN or NP in another jurisdiction:
- Login to the CRNS Portal.
- Complete the Consent Form to Obtain Employment Verification Information and upload it to the CRNS Portal.
- Complete the Verification of Current or Most Recent Registration/Licensure Form and send it to the registration body of the province or country where you’ve most recently registered and worked as an RN or NP.
- Submit a current Criminal Record Check, if applicable.
- Follow the prompts and submit your reinstatement.
- Pay the assessment fee invoice to submit your reinstatement.
- Once your reinstatement has been approved, an RN or NP licensure invoice will be available in your profile.
- Pay the RN or NP licensure invoice.
- Prior to starting work as an RN or NP verify that your license is active by checking the Nurse License Check.
If you have been absent from nursing practice in Saskatchewan and you have not practiced as RN or NP in another jurisdiction:
- Login to the CRNS Portal
- Submit a current Criminal Record Check, if it has been more than two (2) years since you last practiced.
- Follow the prompts and submit your reinstatement.
- Pay the assessment fee invoice to submit your reinstatement.
- Once your reinstatement has been approved, an RN or NP licensure invoice will be available in your profile.
- Pay the RN or NP licensure invoice.
- Prior to starting work as an RN or NP verify that your license is active by checking the Nurse License Check.
This section is for you if you do not meet the minimum hourly requirement for RN licensure:
- 1125 hours in the previous five (5) years, or
- 450 hours in the previous two (2) years.
Requirements for Re-Entry
- Are in good standing with the CRNS.
- Are interested in taking the Registered Nursing Bridging Program for Re-Entry to Practice through Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Program information can be found on the Saskatchewan Polytechnic website.
- Are able to complete the re-entry program within three (3) years from the date you are referred to the program.

Referral Process
Prior to initiating the referral process, contact the CRNS at renew@crns.ca to arrange for a brief interview to discuss your request.
If you are deemed eligible for referral, you will be required to:
- Send a signed and dated letter to the CRNS with your name, mailing address and RN number, and request the CRNS to refer you to the Registered Nursing Bridging Program for Re-Entry to Practice at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. In the letter include a brief outline of what nursing professional development you have engaged in since you last practiced. Send to renew@crns.ca or postal address at: 1-3710 Eastgate Dr, Regina, SK S4Z 1A5.
- Provide consent for the CRNS to discuss your progress with you and the faculty with the Registered Nursing Bridging Program for Re-Entry to Practice at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. The consent form will be emailed to you.
- Pay referral fee invoice.
- Contact Saskatchewan Polytechnic to register for the program, upon receiving a copy of the referral letter from CRNS.
Before You Renew
To complete the renewal form efficiently, each registrant should have:
- Your username which is your email address (the one you have in the CRNS Portal).
- Your password (case sensitive). If you forgot your password, click “forgot password” on the log-in screen.
- Access to your email. For security reasons, when you sign in, you may be prompted to submit a verification code. Copy the verification code, from your email and then input this code exactly as shown into the web browser. Click “Validate” and you will be logged into the CRNS Portal.
- The number of eligible RN, RN(AAP) or NP hours you are counting from December 1, 2024, through to November 30, 2025. Please remember to report your eligible hours for each employer (facility name). If you didn’t work any hours for a particular employer, just enter 0. For more information, click here.
- Continuing Competence Program (CCP) for 2025 must be completed to proceed with your renewal. CRNS registrants are required, at a minimum, to select a Practice Standard you focused on, one related learning goal, and at least one completed activity with an evaluation.
- A form of acceptable payment.
Important Renewal Dates
October 1, 2025: Renewal opens.
November 14, 2025: Renewal application due to ensure it can be processed before license expiration.
November 30, 2025: License renewal closes. Do not work until you have verified on Nurse License Check that you are licensed for the 2026 registration year.
Midnight on November 30, 2025: 2025 license expires.
December 1, 2025: Your license has expired if you have not completed and paid for your renewal. You will need to complete a reinstatement application by going to the CRNS Portal. An additional reinstatement fee of $157.50 will apply. Registrants may also be subject to a late renewal fee.
Processing and Renewal Time Frames
All applications will require a minimum of two (2) weeks after submission to be processed. All registrants must renew their license within the renewal period (October 1 to November 30, 2025). At any other time, this will be treated as a reinstatement and will be subject to reinstatement and late fees in addition to licensing fees.
