2027 License Renewal Opens October 1 – Here’s What You Need to Know

The 2027 license renewal period opens October 1 and closes November 30 at midnight. Taking a few steps now can help make the renewal process easier when it opens.

Before beginning your renewal:

Make sure you can access your CRNS Portal and the email account associated with your profile. You may be asked to enter a verification code sent to your email when signing in.

Registrants should also be prepared to report their eligible nursing practice hours for the period from December 1, 2025, to November 30, 2026, and ensure their Continuing Competence Program (CCP) requirements are complete.

An important change for 2027 renewal:

Registrants will now register and pay the fees for professional liability protection (PLP) and core services directly to the Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS) using the MyCNPS portal. You will be directed to complete your CNPS registration as part of the license renewal form.

Renewal will involve two transactions: one with CRNS and one with CNPS. There is no change to the total cost of licensure as a result of this process change.

For more information see the CRNS News Bulletin article: Registering for CNPS Professional Liability Protection – A New Process for 2027 Renewal

Before October 1:

  • Confirm you can access your CRNS Portal and email.
  • Review and update your CCP learning plan.
  • Have your nursing practice hours ready to report.
  • Activate your MyCNPS account if you have not already done so.

Update your employer and personal contact information:

Take a moment to review the information in your CRNS profile and make sure it is current. If your employment or personal contact information has changed, update it in your CRNS profile before completing renewal.

Registrants have a professional responsibility to keep their employer information up to date with CRNS. You should also confirm that your name, phone number and mailing address are accurate and current.
