Registering for CNPS Professional Liability Protection – A New Process for 2027 Renewal
Registering for the Canadian Nurses Protective Society (CNPS) professional liability protection (PLP) and core services is a requirement for registration with CRNS.
Previously, the fee for CNPS PLP and core services was collected by CRNS as part of the total cost of licensure.
Beginning with the 2027 licensure year, CRNS will no longer collect this fee. Registrants will now register directly with CNPS and pay the fee for PLP and core services through the MyCNPS portal.
As PLP is a requirement for licensure, this step must be completed before your renewal can be finalized.
Activating Your MyCNPS Account
You will need to activate your MyCNPS account before renewing your license. This can be done now, so registrants are encouraged to activate their account in advance of the renewal period.
- Visit my.cnps.ca
- Click ‘Create or activate an account’ under the Login button
- Use the same email address as your CRNS account to activate your MyCNPS account
- Have your CRNS registration number handy (available on your online profile or on the Nurse License Check)
- Follow the steps in the MyCNPS portal to complete your account activation
If you have not activated your MyCNPS account before renewal, you will be directed to do so from the renewal application form as part of the renewal process.
How will the license renewal process work?
License renewal will continue to begin through the CRNS Portal. When renewal opens:
- Sign in to the CRNS portal
- Within the renewal application you will be directed to the MyCNPS portal to complete registration for PLP and core services
- Return to the CRNS Portal to complete your license renewal
Am I currently registered with CNPS?
Yes. If you are a current, practicing CRNS registrant, you have CNPS professional liability protection and core services for the current licensure year (2026). You will need to renew these services with the CNPS directly to complete your 2027 CRNS license renewal.
Do I need to show proof of CNPS professional liability protection and core services to CRNS?
No, the CRNS will receive confirmation that you meet the professional liability protection requirement directly from the CNPS. No further action is required on your part.
