The CRNS regulates nursing practice in Saskatchewan, ensuring that RNs and NPs meet the required standards of practice, ethics and continuing education to provide safe, competent and ethical care.
Nursing practice is the performance and coordination of health care services. It encompasses all aspects of what nurses do, how they do it, what is required of them, and their scope of practice.
The CRNS establishes a minimum level of competence for all RN practice. Documents are developed based on the definitions and descriptions approved by the CRNS Council. These standards are reflective of a more contemporary understanding of nursing, including leadership in healthcare, evidence-based practice and patient-centered care.
Nursing Practice Consultation
CRNS Practice and Education Nursing Advisors are dedicated to answering questions from RNs, NPs and RN(AAP)s about their nursing practice. Advisors are also available for consultations with the public and employers.
Continuing Competence Program (CCP)
The CCP is a mandatory, ongoing education program that ensures all RNs and NPs are continually enhancing their practice through self-directed learning. Every RN and NP must complete the CCP annually as part of the requirements to hold a license to practice registered nursing in Saskatchewan.
