International Educated & Licensed RN

Note:  If you are licensed in a Canadian jurisdiction (province) you are not considered an Internationally Educated Applicant.  If you are licensed in a Canadian Jurisdiction you need to apply as a Canadian RN.

Requirements for Licensure

      1. Receive an advisory report from the National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS)
      2. English is the primary language used in health care in Saskatchewan. You are required to be proficient in English to ensure safe nursing practice. There are different ways that proficiency can be demonstrated:
        • Acceptable English language test(s). Acceptable English language test results must remain current throughout the application and exam process until RN licensure has been obtained. See Acceptable English Tests.
        • Proof of completion of a baccalaureate, re-entry, or bridging program delivered in Canada, the USA, the UK, New Zealand or Australia
        • Employer attestation if you have worked in an English-speaking role (CCA, LPN, RN) in Canada, the USA, the UK, New Zealand or Australia in the previous two years.
      3. Successfully complete a nursing education program
      4. Proof of initial registration from the country where you completed your basic nursing education and official proof of most recent registration if it is different from your initial registration.
      5. Proof of legal name (original or certified copy of birth certificate, government issued valid passport and marriage certificate, if applicable).
      6. In the previous three years, you must have either:
        • worked in registered nursing activities approved by the college in the three years immediately preceding the application for registration, or
        • have completed an approved re-entry program in the three years immediately preceding the application for registration, or
        • completed an approved nursing education program and passed the NCLEX-RN® exam in the three years immediately preceding the application for registration. If you do not meet the currency of practice requirement you may be required to complete a bridging program.
      7. Submit your application for licensure along with applicable fees.

Application for Licensure Process

There are two application routes for Internationally Educated Nurses.  Select the application route the applies to you.

  • Complete the NNAS Assessment and receive an advisory report from National Nursing Assessment Service (NNAS)
  • Create an account with CRNS, complete your initial application and pay the required fee.
  • Upload a copy of your birth certificate and government issued valid passport (and marriage certificate, if applicable) to your application.
  • Complete Verification of Original Registration/Licensure Formand send it to the registration body of the province or where you obtained your basic nursing education (if not already provided to NNAS).
  • Complete the Verification of Current or Most Recent Registration/Licensure Formand send it to the registration body of the province or country where you’ve most recently registered as a RN.
  • If you have passed the NCLEX complete the Verification of Current or Most Recent Registration/Licensure Form and send it to the regulatory body of the province or country that made you eligible to write the NCLEX, who will complete the form and return it directly to the CRNS.
  • Complete the RN Employment / Education form and upload to your application.
  • Once your Assessment for RN Eligibility has been reviewed by a Nursing Advisor you will be contacted with next steps to continue the process.
