What if I need help?
If you require assistance with setting up your profile, navigating the renewal process or paying for your license renewal, please submit a request through the CRNS License Renewal Assistance Request form. Your request will be forwarded to an CRNS staff member who is best able to assist you. They will be in contact with you within two business days.
How does the CRNS contact me about renewal?
The CRNS will send you an email to the address listed in your membership profile with information on how to complete renewal.
What if I do not have an email address?
Each member is required to have their own email address. Members who do not have access to a personal email address or computer can sign up for a free email account that will work for any shared internet-connected computer, tablet or smart phone. You can then proceed to mycrns.ca to set-up your account.
I share an email address with my partner/spouse, who is also a member, and I am unable to register my account.
Each member is required to have their own email address to complete their renewal. This is due to security reasons as to ensure the security of the data, two-factor authentication will be required.
Where do I go to renew my license?
The CRNS will send an email to all active members with information on how to complete renewal. Please visit the member portal to begin the renewal process.
Where do I go if I do not have an account?
Please visit mycrns.ca to register your account and begin the renewal process.
What information should I have when I log in to complete my registration renewal?
To complete the renewal form efficiently, each member should have their:
- username and password (case sensitive);
- the number of hours worked in the 2021 registration year;
- Continuing Competence Program (CCP) completed for 2021;
- employer’s name and facility name;
- if not employer-paid, credit card information; and
- login security question(s) and answer(s).
What if I hit the “Forgot Password” button and it does not immediately provide me with a new login or the page continues to spin?
- If you are asked for a security answer, please be aware that they are case sensitive.
- Once you hit “Forgot Password”, the system may take up to 10 minutes to send a new password to your email.
- Ensure you check your junk or spam folders as it may be filtered there.
- If the password icon continues to spin, do not log out, wait until it has stopped. The browser you use (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc.) may also cause a delay. Click here for assistance.
What if I do not have time to complete the renewal form at one time?
If for some reason you are unable to complete the registration renewal form, the information that has been inputted will be automatically saved. When you go back into complete the form, you can proceed from where you left off.
When will I find out if my license has been approved?
Once you have submitted a completed renewal, you will receive an email indicating the application is under review. Once the application is reviewed and approved, you will receive a second email indicating that your license is approved and renewed for the coming year. There is also a dashboard in your mycrns.ca account that will automatically update with your current renewal status. Please note, it will take a minimum of two weeks for the completion of the renewal process.
How can I check the status of my license after I have renewed?
You can access the public register via the Nurse License Check to see the status of your license.
What happens if I do not renew my license?
All members must renew their license within the renewal period (September 13, 2021-November 30, 2021).
If you are going on a leave (maternity, sick or other) or you do not wish to hold a practicing license for the upcoming year, we recommend you renew as a Non-Practicing Member. This membership entitles you to vote, hold office and be appointed to committees at the membership level, attend the annual meeting and receive the CRNS News Bulletin. If you chose to become an Inactive Member, there are no privileges with the CRNS. Inactive members that decide to revert to a Practicing Member will be subject to a re-instatement fee in addition to licensing fees. This additional fee is $157.50.

What are the payment options?
You can pay for your license renewal online with any major credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express), e-transfer (email@example.com), mail in a cheque to the CRNS’s office or have your employer pay. If you are not paying with a credit card, please allow for a processing time of up to four weeks.
Why is the CNPS fee higher than what I paid last year?
The Canadian Nurses Protective Society has announced an increase in their annual fee requirement for Registered Nurses. The fee increase reflects a number of factors directly related to the legal impacts arising from COVID-19. For information on this fee increase, please visit the CNPS website.
Why are we no longer required to pay the CNA fee?
At the CNA 2021 annual meeting, a bylaw was passed that resulted in individual memberships for nurses who want to be a member of the CNA. As a result, the CRNS will no longer be collecting membership fees for the CNA. If you would like further information about this change, or you would like to purchase a membership, please contact the CNA directly.
What is the process for employer-paid renewals?
Complete your renewal on or before October 13, 2021 and select Employer-Paid as your payment method. Please ensure that you have confirmed with your employer prior to beginning the renewal process. You will receive a confirmation email once your employer has remitted payment that you are licensed for 2022. Please note, it may take up to four weeks to process your renewal application.
Ensure that you update your place of work when completing the registration renewal form. You must select a specific facility, not the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), as an employer.
I work for more than one employer. How do I know which employer will pay for my renewal?
Typically, the primary employer (the one that you work for the most) will pay the registration renewal fee. Be sure to confirm with your employer(s) which should be selected for the Employer-Paid option before you start your renewal application.
Once I have paid any fees, can they be reimbursed?
Refunds will not be issued for reinstatements ($157.50) or license registrations [RN, NP or RN(AAP)] after December 1, 2021.
How do I print a receipt?
Sign into the member portal. Click Invoices & Receipts from the menu on the left-hand side of the page. Follow the instructions found on the Invoices & Receipt page.
I am an RN(AAP)/NP, why do I need to do two renewals?
The Registered Nurse with Additional Authorized Practice [RN(AAP)] and Nurse Practitioner (NP) licenses are separate licenses from the Registered Nurse (RN) license with different requirements. These licenses are separated into their own renewal to ensure the CRNS captures the correct data and monitors licenses appropriately.
I am an NP. Do I have to separate out my clinical hours on the renewal form?
No, in 2020 the CRNS made the decision that NPs no longer need a minimum number of clinical hours within the bylaw requirement of 900 hours in the preceding three years. This change was made in recognition of the fact that NPs work in diverse settings, not all of which may be specifically clinical. It is the responsibility of the NP to ensure that they have the required competencies, should they move to a new practice area.

How do I calculate my practice hours?
- RNs require 1125 hours in the previous five years: December 1, 2016 – November 30, 2021
- RN(AAP)s require 900 hours in the previous three years: December 1, 2018 – November 30, 2021
- NPs require 900 hours in the previous three years: December 1, 2018 – November 30, 2021.
What do I consider as practice hours?

What if I am short on hours?
Members who do not have enough hours to meet their hourly bylaw requirement at the time of renewal can apply for an extension. Refer to the Practice Hours Extension on the CRNS website.

I am a new RN. Do I have to complete the Continuing Competence Program (CCP)?
If you registered prior to May 1, 2021, you will need to complete all four CCP components. If you registered after May 1, 2021, you need to complete a personal assessment and develop a learning plan to be eligible to register. What if I have a practicing license but am on a leave from work (e.g. maternity, disability)—do I still have to participate in the CCP?
